Temptations... a 97 3000gt, manual, awd. No pics under the hood, or really much by way of description.

Then we look at the miles and everything goes out the window.

207321. How.

Somebody buy this before I do.

How bad could it be.

Every time I see one of these, I get nostalgic. Was almost past down to me from my dad, as my first car. Almost. Red 1995 sl. Loved that car.

These cars are electronic nightmares, run away.

The electronics aren’t half as bad to deal with as the unobtanium driveline and suspension bits that one with 200+K miles will need.

These are actually FWD. I drive one occasionally with 100k+ on the clock, it’s nothing to write home about.

Right, I figured since it said rwd instead of fwd it might be the awd. Might call and ask if it’s a VR4, but it’s most likely fwd

Yeah, most likely. I think the VR-4 may have come with a 6 speed as well.

I like the awkward look of the convertible 3000 GTs, they have a different spoiler/trunk due to it being a retractable hardtop.

not yet run in

Unless it’s a VR4, then it’s AWD.

Dude, it’s a 6G72, they’ve ran variants of them in everything from the late 80s to now, if you can’t find parts for them, wrenching probably isn’t for you after all.

Dude, it’s a 6G72, they’re damn near bullet proof. 207k is nothing to worry about if it’s been taken care of.

Oh, sure, the engine’s no problem, try finding tie rod ends, A-arms, clutch, axle half-shafts, or God forbid, a differential or knuckle assembly, or steering rack, or even sway bar links. I know a guy who has a high miles 3000gt VR4 that has been parked, waiting for an axle and tie rod ends for close to two years. Admittedly he could probably get the parts form Japan for $$$$, but he’s on a budget and is looking for used/reman parts

Clearly the dude you know has never used Rock Auto: https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/mitsubishi,1997,3000gt,3.0l+v6+dohc,1205211

You’ll notice many of those parts say “except turbo” and “2wd only” and/or “without ABS”. you’re right, the 3000gt as a whole isn’t that hard to care for, the VR4 is a nightmare.

Its FWD and a crappy front bumper. Run thats way too much money. Ive driven one with over 200k and it was a piece.

Likely because I searched the non-turbo. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/mitsubishi,1997,3000gt,3.0l+v6+turbocharged,1434244

They seem to have plenty of parts for the VR4 as well. Like I said, you just have to look.

Well I guess I need to check RockAuto more often. I actually don’t know if the guy has his 3000GT back on the road now or not, he’s not a friend, just a guy I run into sometimes...

Wasn’t trying to jump your shit, I’ve worked on 3000gt’s before (VR4 and non-VR4), we’ve never had an issue getting any part for them.

The only thing we had any issue with was the electronic suspension, easily solved by getting the KYB conversion struts which eliminate the electronic suspension all together.

Same problem I had with my old Alfa Romeo 164-S, all parts readily available (and cheap!) except for the active suspension struts... the conversion was actually kind of a PITA, but at least you could get Konis that would fit once the adapters were installed. I actually managed to keep mine (active-damping struts) limping along in and out of failure mode for over 400K miles. Most people just gave up the first time the e-struts went wonky and did the conversion, but I’m an electronic fiddler and most of their problems were with sensors, solenoids and drive circuitry... so I bodged them back to working order several times ;)

Electronics aren’t my strong suit, I know just enough to be dangerous.
